Healthy School Checklist
Is Your School a Healthy and Active School?
Does your school help every student attain the skills,
knowledge and attitude necessary for them to lead
healthy, active, productive lives that lead to academic
success? This checklist
provides parents and
community members a tool to answer that question.
The more "yes" answers the better a school is
working toward promoting healthy and active habits for
the students. If your school is doing well, take time to
congratulate the principal and staff and encourage
them to continue their positive efforts to promote the
importance of being healthy and active.
If your school is in need of improvement, below are

- Obtain a copy of your district's health and wellness
policy.
- Talk to other parents and develop a plan for
actions that families can implement.
- Work with classroom teachers to create a list of

- Help organize a "walk or bike" to school group.
"Our schools have a responsibility to educate both
minds and bodies. That should be our challenge for
the future."
